‘Zomaskovat’ is a Czech word meaning to be in disguise. Through this series my aim was to explore how people put up ‘masks’ in order to fit into certain social groups. Originally I saw this collection as a reflection of my younger self and the expectations and peer pressure I experienced throughout high school.
Although as I delved deeper, I found myself on a journey of self exploration and by the end I was left to think about how far from my true self I sometimes stray, which is confronting and also grounding. The masks worn throughout ‘Zomaskovat’ are symbolic of the ones we wear whilst on our journey to find where we fit in.
